A question that has been on the minds of many students and parents within the Bel Air High School community is what will be the impact of Hurricane Sandy on the postponed athletic events due to Harford County Public Schools being closed, and when will these games be made up?  The Bellarion has tried to answer that question to the best of our ability.

Girls’ Volleyball Celebrates Senior Night By Finishing Undefeated Regular Season

The Bel Air Girls’ Varsity Volleyball Team won their last game of the regular season on October 24th against Northeast. This win brought their final record to 15-0.

The team recognized the achievements of their 8 graduating seniors in addition to  JV Coach, Ms. Friedman, and Varsity Coach, Mr. Markland, with back to back wins. The 8 seniors graduating are Jen Schofeild, Tia Williams, Jackie DeLuise, Kaila Gonzalez, Consuelo Ezcurra, Kendall Daley, Madi Bever, and Sam Liberto.

This is Ms. Friedman’s and Mr. Markland’s last season,  so this night was special not only to the seniors but to the whole team as well. Coach Markland has never lost on a senior night in his previous seasons as coach, so winning this game meant a lot not only to him, but to the entire team.

With all the seniors starting in the match the Lady Bobcats were strong from start to finish. They were on the top of their game beating North East in 3 games. Amanda Rodriguez set up the Bobcat attack with 16 assist, while Celeste Roland, Tia Willaims, and Jackie DeLuise fired up the offense with 18 kills. Bel Air served a great game, recording with 7 aces. Consuelo Ezcurra and Kendall Daley added outstanding back row defense.

The team is sad to see the seniors go, but the season isn’t over yet; the girls play North Harford in the UCBAC Conference Championship on Tuesday October 30th at Patterson Mill at 7 pm.
